OAB Minutes
April 26, 2009

Present: Lani Akers, Jeff Bemrose, Kristina Griffith, Robert Heinke, Phil Hodapp, Laura Nelson, Corianne Rice Heinke, Renee Schaefer

Meeting Called to Order at 1:25 PM

Lani: Treasurer Report. Finances are fine.

Playing Opportunities
Pick-up Game: September 12.
Homecoming 2009: Ducks vs. ASU, November 14.
Pape Jam: December; exact date TBA.

Homecoming
Survey: 45 people answered. We went over comments.
Alcohol: Alcohol seems to be becoming a problem. Make an announcement at Homecoming to drink responsibly.
Attire: Scrap Windbreakers until we are forced to use them. All voted yes; Monica opposed.
Instruments: Percussion and Sousas covered by OMB again.
Music: Get a list of tunes “most likely to be played”. Will ask band office to send it out. They may be able to give us the PDF versions.
Directors: Check with Laura Arthur, Julie and Katie.
Venue: National Guard is no longer associated with the Armory. Other organization is running the Armory full-time. Can’t remember the name of the association. Phil and Jeanette are working on getting the building for us again. Ideas thrown out for alternatives. Apartments with a separate rec. center, space under Autzen, SOM.

Pick-up Game
Sept. 12 pick-up game: Everything is the same as last year. We take registration for the game. Alumni have to be registered in order to play. Discussed the direction we want to go because Eric wants us to be more involved in pick-up games.

Pape Jam
Problem with last year's Jam: too many drummers, although it seemed to work out just having drummers playing the songs they want to. Previously forced to turn away drummers because we were on ESPN. Not an issue unless we get many drummers signed up so we'll address that later if necessary.

Registration
Want to be able to let people sign up and pay on-line. Kristina knows someone (Mike Suskin) who can help design the site. Voted to have him help us make the website so we can have people register on-line. Monica opposed.
Mike will get free dues in order to do this. All voted in favor, Monica opposed.
People can check to see that they are registered for a game, if they are paid up, and also if they want to check to see if friends are registered for events.

Recruitment/Retention
Need to use more ways to get our name out there. Facebook, Myspace, etc.
Kristina will take care of making an OAB page on Facebook.
We will only do newsletter on-line. Can send paper copies to those who don’t have email. Do quarterly newsletter. Can also highlight this as the feature.
Still want to make cards for graduating seniors to give at Band Banquet. Will collect their e-mail address when we give out the cards.

OMB Relations
We did not give out scholarship last year because we didn’t send out a poster with the applications. Did give the PDF to Eric, but didn’t get past that.
Will purchase treats again. Will provide tubs with our logo on it. We will also purchase $5 UO Bookstore gift certificates to be awarded at each game. We will put a sticker of some sort on 5 granola bars at each game to say they’ve won the gift certificate.
Need to remind OMB about Festival of Bands ad, since we budgeted for it last year but didn't get contacted in time to submit the ad.

Brainstorming
Divide into subcommittees or cabinets to manage OAB duties since managing all of the duties seems to be a lot. Four separate duties: Playing Opportunities, Registration, Recruitment, OMB Relations
Laura and Lani would be happy to do Registration and work with Mike.
Kristina and Jeff would like to do Recruitment/Retention, Kristina also has people to help her with that.
Phil and Jeff will help with Playing Opportunities.
Corianne and Robert will take on OMB Relations.
Jeff has volunteered to be alcohol monitor.

Board Members
Welcome new members Kristina Griffith and Jeff Bemrose!
Laura is stepping down as President.
Corianne voted in as President of OAB. All in favor except Monica, who opposed.
Robert voted in as Vice President of OAB. All in favor except Monica, who opposed.
Renee voted in as Secretary of OAB. All in favor except Monica, who opposed.
Lani voted in as Treasurer of OAB. All in favor except Monica, who opposed.
